What Careers Are You Interested In?

The following examples have been pulled directly from local job postings in the Dayton and Cincinnati Ohio area.  There are often multiple ways to achieve the education and qualifications necessary for any job.  The Educational Pathways described below are not the only appropriate pathways that a student could take, but they offer a concise pathway for students at Sinclair Community College.

Mental Health Technician, No CDCA

    • Ensure the well-being of patients and provide a positive, supportive, and structured environment. 

    • Conduct safety checks  

    • Document timely, accurate and appropriate clinical information in patient's medical record. 

    • Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors, and communicate significant observations to nursing staff. 

    • Engage patients in interactions, group therapy and activities designed to encourage achievement of treatment goals and increase therapeutic coping skills. 

    • Complete and maintain required documentation. Complete paperwork as required on incidents and events that may take place on the unit. 

  • $15-$18/Hr

  • Requires a HS Diploma or GED. Associates degree and/or related certificates will provide a competative edge and opportunity to negotiate salary.

  • -AAS in mental health services

Behavioral Technician

    • Facilitate individualized treatment plans to meet needs of each client 

    • Facilitate activities to build skills: communication, social skills, daily living, independence, personal hygiene, fine and gross motor skills  

    • Work one on one with clients 

    • Assist and care for children with severe developmental disabilities 

    • Cook meals as necessary  

    • Transport and attend appointments with clients  

    • Complete required documentation 

  • $20+/Hr

  • Requires 3 years experience of a bachelor's degree.

  • -AA in social work

    -BSW from accredited university

Applied Behavior Analysis/ Registered Behavior Technician

    • Work collaboratively with a BCBA supervisor to implement basic principles and teaching procedures of ABA therapy 

    • Implement treat plan developed by BCBA 

    • Utilize positive reinforcement 

    • Provide center-based, in-home, and community based Applied Behavioral Analysis Therapy 

    • Collect behavioral and skill acquisition data 

  • $15-$22/Hr

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED. Associates degree and/or related certificates will provide a competative edge and opportunity to negotiate salary.

Mental Health Therapist

    • Implement and review treatment plans 

    • Complete required documentation  

    • Provide individual, group, family, and crisis counseling  

  • $23+/Hr

  • Requires Ohio LSW, LPC, MFT, LISW or LPCC and a bachelor's degree, master's degree preferred.

  • -AA in social work

    -BWS from accredited university

    -LSW or AAS in mental health services

    -BS in integrated human services

    -MA/MS in community counseling

CDCA Recovery Support Specialist

    • Conduct client counts 

    • Participate in pre/post shift debriefings 

    • Prepare written reports  

    • Assist with admission and discharge  

    • Oversee inventory 

    • Urine collection and testing  

    • Client transportation  

    • Disperse medication  

  • $15-$18/Hr

Crisis Response Specialist

    • Provide hot line service, crisis intervention, and mobile response services  

    • Perform triage under clinical supervision  

    • Make referral decisions  

    • Be available 100% of time scheduled on call  

    • Serve as consultant to hotline staff, clinicians, third party callers, etc.  

    • Provides assessments and safety planning under clinical supervision  

    • Completes required documentation  

  • $22+/Hr

  • Requires a bachelor's degree, OCSWMFT, and LSW or LPC.

  • -AA in social work
